If you have elected to receive a Free Benefit for your baby under a China Health Insurance plan then your new-born will receive coverage up to a pre-determined Time or Financial limit, completely free of charge.
The Free Benefit period under this type of New Born Coverage option will generally last for the first 30 days of life, or the first US$ 30,000 in medical costs, whichever comes first. Once the limit has been reached, in order for your infant to continue receive China Health Insurance coverage a new application must be submitted to the insurance company.
In the event that the Child has been born with a serious health condition which has required care under the Free Benefit, any subsequent application for China Health Insurance coverage for the infant will normally treat the baby’s health condition at birth as pre-existing under a new policy (when a new application is made). Additionally, any application for continuing coverage for the infant will carry a premium charge; so although the free benefit period of cover is cost-free, you will have to pay a fee for obtaining coverage for your infant outside of the free benefit period.
As such, it can be seen that a New Born Child Insurance Free Benefit is useful if your infant is born in good health. However, in the event that the child is born with a medical condition which requires treatment a Free Benefit may not be the optimal China Health Insurance Solution.
